JfJfP DVD – A Heartfelt Wish, discussing Peter Kosminsky’s “The Promise”

We are delighted to offer a unique new DVD resource for stimulating discussion in schools, faith and community groups about the Israel-Palestine conflict.  A Heartfelt Wish is a short documentary recording what happened when leading film maker Peter Kosminsky joined a rabbi, a bishop and 300 sixth form students in Sherborne, Dorset in November 2011, exploring Israel and Palestine through discussions based on his drama The Promise. See an online report here.

The Promise aroused great controversy when its four 100-minute episodes were aired on Channel 4 in February 2011. It wove together the history of British involvement in the founding of Israel in 1947-48, seen through the eyes of a young British soldier, with the present day reality in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, witnessed by his teenage granddaughter. A Heartfelt Wish shows Kosminsky explaining his film to A-level students from four Sherborne secondary schools and records their interactions with him and with Dr Graham Kings, Bishop of Sherborne, who chaired the proceedings, Rabbi Danny Rich, Chief Executive of Liberal Judaism, and Dr Hammadi Nait-Charif, Senior Lecturer in Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, among others. The result is a compelling and thought-provoking exploration of complex issues, presented in an accessible form.
