JJP unequivocally condemns the series of six attacks on Jews and Jewish premises that started with the lethal attack on the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester in October last year and ended with the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green on Wednesday. We support the government in applying the full force of the law in prosecuting the perpetrators and in providing protection to Jewish synagogues and other Jewish premises.
The attacks come out of a wave of sharply increasing antisemitism. We urge the government to consider the causes of this increased antisemitism carefully and consult widely in the Jewish community and with academic authorities on racism in order to deal with the problem wisely. Restricting the right to protest against Israel, or broadly categorising Palestinian support slogans as antisemitic, will only cause resentment, which will increase antisemitism.
