On 9 February, JJP wrote to Calum Miller, Liberal Democrat Party Foreign Affairs Spokesperson. We asked for a meeting to discuss Israel’s continuing attempts to sabotage the Gaza ceasefire. We fear that, eventually, Hamas will be provoked just enough to give Israel the pretext to resume its genocide against Gaza.
Our letter is below.
Calum Miller MP, 9 February 2026
Foreign Affairs Spokesperson
Liberal Democrat Party
Dear Mr. Miller,
We are writing to ask for a meeting to discuss the issues we raised in our letters to all MPs of 26 January and 2 February.
Israel has continued attempting to sabotage the ceasefire. On 3 February, “According to the IDF, troops…came under fire from multiple gunmen during operations on the Israeli side of the Yellow Line.” (our italics) One soldier was badly wounded. “In response, the military said, tanks opened fire on the gunmen, and airstrikes were carried out in the area, in eastern Gaza City.”1
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that 21 Palestinians were killed and 38 wounded in the strikes on two neighbourhoods of Gaza City and a tent housing displaced people. The dead include two teenage children and a 5-month old baby.
The IDF did not explain what the operations were. The suspicion must be that it was again trying to collapse tunnels on stranded Hamas fighters, as we described in our letter of 26 January. That breaks both spirit and letter of the ceasefire agreement. The Hamas fighters would open fire in order to protect themselves.
In these circumstances, we urge you to demand that the government does not restart free trade talks with Israel now. Israel would take that, or any normalisation of relations, as proof that the international community will turn a blind eye to its provocations. That would lead inexorably to a Hamas response just big enough to give Israel the pretext to resume its genocide against Gaza.
We hope to hear from you shortly to arrange a meeting.
Yours sincerely,
Arthur Goodman
Parliamentary and Diplomatic Liaison Officer
