At least six Palestinians wounded as settlers torch West Bank homes in overnight raid

Palestinian media outlets reported that settlers set fire to homes in the village of Tuba in the South Hebron Hills. According to one of the reports, at least six people were injured, including a mother, three girls aged five to eight, a 10-year-old boy, and a 22-year-old man.

Settlers destroyed solar panels and left graffiti throughout the village, as reported by a resident of Tuba. The attackers were then seen retreating in a group towards the nearby outpost of Havat Ma’on.

Eyewitnesses noted the large number of attackers and the coordinated manner in which they operated; suspects were organized and arrived in vehicles.

According to residents, settlers stormed the homes and damaged six buildings, attacked the residents and set fire to bales of hay. Radwan Abu Jundi, a resident of Tuba, said that during the attack, the family members were forced to hide inside the house while the settlers threw stones at him.  “The only thing we heard was the sound of the stones making impact. If any of us had stayed outside, they would have killed us,” he said, adding that settlers broke into the house, and the family members tried to rescue the women and girls and move them to an inner room, where they locked the door to protect them.  Abu Jundi added that the attackers then began to set fire to the buildings. “They tried to burn the outdoor kitchen, and the entire area around the house burned. The trees were also damaged,” he said.  He said that his wife was hit in the head and body, and his daughter was taken for medical treatment.

The IDF said that suspects had “fled before they arrived,” and that police officers had collected evidence for an investigation.  According to the military response, the IDF “strongly condemns these types of events, including harming residents like women and children.”

On Tuesday, settlers set fire to vehicles and property overnight in the West Bank villages of Talfit and Jalud near Nablus, according to Palestinian reports.   Footage from one of the villages showed graffiti reading “Revenge” and “Avi, go home” – apparently referring to the head of the IDF’s Central Command, amid the controversy over Defense Minister Israel Katz’s attempt to dismiss him. Katz reversed the decision on Monday after meeting with settlement leaders.

The Israel Police arrested on Sunday two Israeli settlers on suspicion of involvement in the arson of a mosque in the West Bank, after settlers set fire to two mosques, according to Palestinian reports and footage.

Palestinian reports also said settlers last week set fire to vehicles and agricultural land in the village of Beitillu, northwest of Ramallah. Residents of Beit Furik, east of Nablus, also reported hate graffiti and fires in agricultural fields.

Police said last week they had arrested two settlers suspected of involvement in the arson attacks and graffiti.
