The Palestine Chronicle reports on 1 September 2026:

Key Developments

  • A joint Israeli-militia special force infiltrated western Gaza City for a security operation but was discovered and surrounded.

A Covert Operation in Western Gaza City
Further details have emerged about Tuesday’s extraordinary escalation in western Gaza City, where Palestinian sources say an Israeli special force infiltrated an area crowded with civilians before being discovered, triggering armed clashes and an intensive Israeli operation to extract the unit.

Accounts provided by Quds News Network (QNN), Palestinian security sources, Gaza’s Government Media Office and Al Mayadeen broadly agree that an Israeli special operation took place in western Gaza City and that the infiltrating force encountered Palestinian fighters.

According to QNN’s account, an Israeli special force infiltrated western Gaza City on Tuesday to carry out what Palestinian sources described as a “security mission.”  The unit was discovered before completing its mission, according to QNN, prompting clashes with Palestinian forces.  Field sources told the network that the infiltrating unit was surrounded as fighting erupted. Israeli occupation forces then launched intensive airstrikes and opened fire on anyone moving in the surrounding area while drones flew heavily overhead.
