Balfour Day can’t be celebrated with honour

November 2nd, centenary of the Balfour Declaration, is the day when the British government smiled upon a Jewish homeland in Palestine and simultaneously handed Palestinians over to fate. This did not go well.

Jewish ‘leaders’ are local sub-contractors for Israeli propaganda

For the first time in Israel’s history the consensus of support in the UK for the new state has broken writes Robert A.H. Cohen. Despite – or perhaps because of – the slick propaganda for Israel which the Jewish establishment transmits it is the Palestinians who have won popular support among younger generations.

Foul mouths of Bibi fans

It is a principle of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign – which organised the Netanyahu protest (along with JfJfP) to tolerate no form of racism, especially antisemitism. In the pro-Israel demo it seemed that no insult about Palestinians or their supporters was too bigoted to earn a rebuke. Ben White comments.

Leaders of biggest Jewish organisation ‘presiding over its rapid disintegration’

The Board of Deputies, the pro-Israel body favoured by all UK governments as representing Britain’s Jews, is reported to be in a state of chaos, on the edge of self-destruction. We have yet to hear from the members, but unreported in these stories is the loss of its primary leadership role to the JLC which is apparently favoured by the UK government for its more unconditional pro-Israeli line.

‘Leaders’ of Jewish communities speaking only for themselves

Letters published in The Independent and Jewish Chronicle by two JfJfP signatories protest at the sycophantic letter (2) to Ambassador Taub claiming to express on behalf of all UK Jews solidarity with Israel’s onslaught on Gaza. An editorial in Jewish Forward (USA) lambasts powerful right-wing Jewish bodies for their (failed) campaign of denigration against Obama in the recent election. How come these elites are so out of touch with the communities they claim to speak for?

Cover your ears and cling to Israel

In the din of war and the internet’s deluge of information Robert Cohen tries to make sense of what’s going on. He does not regret his own uncertainties – but is angered by the British Jewish establishment’s betrayal of the Judaic tradition. It has nothing to say but ‘we are with you Israel’.

TUC votes show Israel losing battle of ideas in Britain

The series of votes, reports and decisions by the TUC in the last three years all rest on the assumption that Israel is the oppressor and the Palestinians the oppressed. So, argues Sarah Colborne, it is clear that the Israeli government’s propaganda is failing to impress the bulk of people outside the right wing in the UK.
