Palestinian demonstration for the release of Palestinian BDS Co-ordinator, Mahmoud Nawajaa
Tamara Nassar reports in The Electronic Intifada:
An Israeli military court released human rights defender Mahmoud Nawajaa on Monday after detaining and interrogating him for 19 days.
Nawajaa is the general coordinator of the BDS – boycott, divestment and sanctions – movement. Despite his prolonged interrogation, the Israeli military filed no charges and released Nawajaa unconditionally.
“The Israeli occupation and the settler-colonial apartheid regime arrested me to obstruct the BDS movement, distort its image and intimidate its activists,” Nawajaa said upon his release. “But it failed once again today, before popular will and international solidarity – which are the strength of the BDS movement on the Palestinian, Arab and international levels.”
Thanks to sustained international pressure, Palestinian human rights defender and BDS coordinator Mahmoud Nawajaa was released after being held without charge by apartheid Israel for 19 days. #FreeMahmoudhttps://t.co/7z6xgKQxyy

As Mahmoud said today “Pressure works. Sustained global pressure works even better. I am deeply grateful to all those who pressured apartheid Israel to release me, your solidarity gave me strength & kept alive my hope to be reunified with my loving family & the wider BDS family.” — IPSC (@ipsc48) August 17, 2020
