URGENT – contact your MP now to ask them to sign Ann Clwyd’s amendment to remove clause 152
JfJfP supports the call from PSC which we publish below
The Police Reform Bill has just finished its committee stage in the House of Commons and is due to be debated by MPs again in March. It includes clause 152 which, if passed, will mean instead of prosecutors applying immediately to the courts for the arrest of a war crimes suspect, they will first have to get the prior agreement of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for the case to be heard. This will cause unnecessary delay in time sensitive operations and could result in political interference. The Government of Israel has lobbied hard for this change in the law ever since a court in London issued an arrest warrant against Tzipi Livni.
We are asking everyone to contact their MPs to ask them to sign an amendment leaving out clause 152 due to be tabled by Ann Clwyd when MPs’ return to Parliament.
