Israeli Occupation Forces Break into Palestinian Elementary School near Jerusalem

The Palestine Chronicle reports on 21 September 2023:

Israeli occupation forces broke into Izzariyeh Elementary School for Girls, east of Jerusalem, on Thursday morning, causing heavy damage to the property, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.  The school principal, Sireen Faroun, told WAFA that the teachers and students were shocked by the volume of damage caused to the school in the raid.  Israeli soldiers reportedly blew up doors, searched the classrooms, and seized CCTV cameras, destroying some and causing heavy damage to property.

The Palestinian Ministry of Education condemned the army vandalism of the school property, considering it a blatant violation of human rights and the right of children to a safe and secure education.  The ministry said that this incident shows the difficult conditions experienced by students and teachers in occupied Jerusalem and its suburbs as a result of the war waged by the occupation forces against educational institutions.

Israeli Forces Obstruct Palestinian Students’ Access to School

The Palestine Chronicle reports on 2 October 2023:

Israeli occupation soldiers obstructed the arrival of Palestinian students and teachers at 27 schools. Meanwhile, in the northern West Bank village of Burqa, classes were suspended following an Israeli military raid.
Israeli occupation forces obstructed the arrival of Palestinian students and teachers at 27 schools east of Yatta in the southern occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education.  The ministry said in a statement that Israeli soldiers set up checkpoints around Yatta and obstructed the arrival of teachers and students to their schools.

Meanwhile, in the northern West Bank village of Burqa, classes were suspended following an Israeli military raid on Sunday night.  The ministry decided to suspend classes to safeguard the students and teachers following the Israeli army assault on the village, which led to the injury of a child by a live bullet and another by shrapnel.

The Israeli army closed all access roads to the village with dirt mounds and cement blocks making movement in and out of the village impossible.

“Palestinian children living under Israeli military occupation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip are routinely denied their (…) right to education,” according to the child rights organization Defense for Children International – Palestine.  “For Palestinian children that must pass through Israeli military checkpoints to reach school, this results in missed class time, as well as subjecting children to violence, intimidation, and arbitrary arrest as children must interact with Israeli military personnel on thehttps://www.palestinechronicle.com/a-cruel-choice-why-israel-targets-palestinian-schools-video/ir way to school,” the organization added.

Israeli Occupation Forces Detain 9 Palestinian Children Aged 8 to 13 in Hebron

The Palestine Chronicle reports on 4 October 2023:

Israeli occupation forces detained nine Palestinian children aged between 8 and 13 in Hebron while they were on their way home from school.
Israeli occupation forces detained nine Palestinian children aged between eight and 13 in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood in the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron (Al-Khalil), the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

According to WAFA, the children were detained on their way home from school and were taken to an unknown location.

The Israeli army has intensified its presence in Hebron as illegal Jewish settlers celebrate the Jewish Sukkot holiday.  During Jewish holidays, settlers escalate their provocations toward the Palestinian population, attacking them in the streets and in their homes.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian girl suffered bruises and wounds and was admitted to hospital after she was beaten by Israeli occupation forces in the center of Hebron.  The Israeli occupation troops also fired tear gas canisters at people in the center of the city, causing dozens to suffocate.
