Trump fires Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State

US President Donald Trump has fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson via Twitter, naming CIA Director Mike Pompeo as his replacement.

Whatever his political beliefs, however conservative he may be, Rex Tillerson is a realist and a rationalist. He supported the Iran nuclear deal and wanted to go slow on moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem. The man Trump has appointed to replace him, Head of the CIA Mke Pompeo is a former Republican Senator. He is a man after Trump’s own heart. He opposes the Iran deal and supports Israel’s right wing agenda.
This change removes one of the few realists among the top people in the Administration who might have moderated Donald Trump’s dangerous, nationalist tendencies. It bodes ill for the Palestnians. (see BBC report)
