Knesset member to challenge Likud bill to reduce Palestinian citizens of Israel to 2nd class status

MK Jabareen, a member of the Palestinian parties’ Joint List in the Knesset, will introduce a bill to define Israel as the state of all its citizens, “treating all its citizens with complete…equality” (see here and here).

Supported by the whole Joint List, this bill is intended to expose the barely-hidden racism of the Nation State Bill proposed by Likud MKs, which would define Israel as the “Nation State of the Jewish People”.

The small right wing majority in the Knesset virtually guarantees eventual passage of the Nation State Bill. However, if all the MKs in the centrist and left wing Jewish parties join the Joint List in voting against it and voting for Jabareen’s bill, that will show the world that, at least at some level, the centrist and left-wing Jewish parties are prepared to stand up for what is right.
