The international volunteer olive tree brigade

Israeli police ignore the attacks made by settlers on Palestinian olive trees, digging up new saplings, chopping down mature trees. But with the increase in volunteers for the harvest, and help from the PLO and the UK’s FCO, attacks have gone down, this no thanks to Israel’s forces of law and order.

Pressure rises for IDF to protect olive harvest

The Israeli government and IDF know well that every year in the season of olive harvesting settlers do their violent best to destroy the harvest. Palestinians have no expectation that the Israeli state will protect them but increasing NGO and volunteer protests are reaching media outlets that have traditionally kept their eyes and voices down. Here, reports from Jewish Forward and Times of Israel.

Settlers destroy olive trees to prevent Palestinian harvest

The olive harvest season has begun in the West Bank – and with it repeated attacks by settlers on the fruit-laden trees owned by Palestinians. The IDF does not intervene to protect this property – many attacks happen at night – but has been active in preventing farmers and families from reaching the olive groves. Reports from ISM, Irish Times and B’Tselem.

State and settlers’ illegal economic war against Palestinian olive farming

The olive harvest, principal source of income and way of life for many Palestinians, begins this week. It galvanises the IOF into checking the IDs of Palestinians returning to help with the harvest and settlers into cutting down olive trees in a drive to destroy the Palestinian economy and land ownership, And then there’s the wall, reports JK D’Amours,1st, which Israel plans to drive through the lands of Battir. The Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of the Wall is given 3rd.

The olive harvest is underway – so is settler thieving and destruction

A senior UN official condemned attacks by Jewish “settler extremists” on Palestinians’ olive trees in the occupied West Bank and called on Israel to “combat violence and terror by Israelis.” And Harriet Sherwood reports on the olive harvest.
