Judge upholds right of pension funds to be ethical

Israel’s anti-BDS minister Gilad Erdan met Communities secretary Sajid Javid in September 2016. Shortly after, David’s department issued ‘guidance’ that pro-BDS decisions by local government were not ‘appropriate’. A judge has now ruled that he was overstepping his brief.

Comedian Harel’s derisive riff on ‘Marwan eats’ video

Assaf Harel delivers a sardonic and cutting commentary on the broadcasting of the secretly taken video of Marwan Barghouti apparently eating a bar of something sweet.

Israel compiling massive database of every BDS supporter

If the priorities of the Israeli government were ordered by ministerial time then hunting and expelling BDS supporters would come at or near the top. Gilad Erdan, BDS-hunter general, has supervised the listing of all BDS supporters outside Israel. Now he’s ordered the same time-consuming job for Israeli citizens making freedom of speech and of choice privileges, not rights.

The bits of Israel that BDS hurts

The primary damage to Israel done by the BDS campaign is reputational. It casts a shadow over Israel’s integrity for people who have no interest in MidEast politics. The government says it has no impact on its growing economy but it has set up a unit in the Strategic Affairs Dept to spearhead the denigration of BDS. It’s floundering, Adelson’s billions may not be enough.

Palestinians, Shut Up! Israelis – let the hate speech roll

Facebook has many virtues – let your Mum know you’re OK, keep an eye on your kids, keep in touch with friends, organise a meeting..etc. Its other side is the spewing of hate and persecution of, especially, the socially weak. It’s a popular medium amongst young Palestinians, hence the charge by Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan who, contemptuously, ascribes all Palestinian resistance to the power of Facebook and it’s popular with Israelis who freely make calls for the death of Palestinians.

Israel will welcome New Year with new anti-BDS campaign

For many years, writes Doron Peskin, the Israeli state treated BDS as, at worst an irritant. Now it has been declared ‘an existential threat’ – joining what has become quite a large group. A new office with a big budget is to start work on January 1st combatting the civil society movement.
