This government can’t be serious

Former defence minister Moshe Ya’alon has launched another attack on the PM, calling on him to resign as a threat to democracy. He also attacked other ministers for their rhetoric of decisive security actions but doing nothing.

Tawdry politician gets top position

Avigdor Lieberman has no admirers. But in a sign of his desperation Netanyahu is poised to put him in the position which requires most finesse, diplomacy and knowledge – foreign minister. Perhaps the universal outcry will make him change his mind.

Foreign policy handed to proud racist

Bogie’s out leaving Bougie and Bibi to bogey on down the racist road of no return. Articles from Haaretz, Salon and Richard Silverstein, who makes a Putin link.

Sweden to recognise Palestine as a state

Sweden has become the first of the older EU members to declare that it will recognise a Palestinian state. This has drawn Israel’s ire with foreign minister Lieberman playing the Syrian gambit (you cannot move there because you should be talking about Syria). Sweden has a new centre-left government.

Move to Israel – or lose another 6 million

Avigdor Lieberman has come up with another wonderful wheeze – persuade diaspora Jews to move to Israel (populating the West Bank presumably) on the grounds that outside Israel Jews are faced with annihilation by assimilation. Perhaps he would like a revival of the persecution that once made Jews such an inturned and protective community; freedom has made that sort of Jewishness redundant without special measures to ensure separateness – such as Jewish free schools.
