A new form of politics – no factions

Daoud Kuttab dubs it a new movement. Dr Inas Abbad asks ‘How can we use this new model of Palestinian struggle more widely and achieve other victories against the occupation?’ She has joined the peaceful mass prayer protest and she and Kuttab love its spontaneity and that of those who bring food and water.

Fear stifles Umm al-Fahm

The three Palestinians who gunned down two police officers outside the Al Aqsa mosque came from the powerful Jabarin clan centred in Umm Al-Fahm. This is also the home territory of Sheikh Raed Al Salah who preaches against the Jewish Israeli desecration of the mosque area. Shlomo Eldar writes, hopelessly it seems, of the squeeze on the border town [see map] by a revengeful IDF and a totalitarian northern Islamic government.

Right wing gangs up to silence resisters

The paranoid character of Israel’s dominant culture has been apparent since Netanyahu first labelled immigrants as ‘infiltrators’. David Shulman finds it in the actual attempt of the right, and state, to infiltrate any group opposed to the division of the country into loyal Jews and enemies.

Israel’s ‘security’ needs prevent freedom of worship

Freedom for all religions (unlike those intolerant Muslim regimes) has been one of Israel’s main claims to be the leading light in the Middle East. In fact, as with everything in Israel, freedom of worship in Israel and the oPt is significantly curtailed in the name of security (Israel’s). Orly Noy speaks her mind.

Jewish extremists call for replacement of Al-Aqsa mosque with third temple

This is the main part of a complex post by Ali Abuminah as he tries to track efforts to create pressure to destroy the Al-Aqsa mosque on Temple Mount and replace if with a third temple. The main agitator is Moshe Feiglin who created Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) in 1996 then took it into Likud in 2000 as a faction. Israeli media have been cautious about covering his deliberately inflammatory moves.
