US State Department announces embassy move to Jerusalem in May

The American Consulate in Jerusalem is to be converted to the embassy in May

Donald Trump has decided to convert the American Consulate in the Amona part of West Jerusalem into he new American embassy in May this year. Other countries had severely criticised his initial decision in December to move the embassy. Many people had hoped the lengthy time necessary to plan for the move would allow experienced advisers time to persuade him to reconsider his rash promise.
Palestinians are understandably furious. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is jubilant, saying “Move will make Israel’s 70th Independence Day a much greater celebration” (See YNET report).
