Ahed Tamimi in custody

+972 staff write, “Ahed Tamimi, the teenager from Nabi Saleh arrested after a video of her attempting to push two armed Israeli soldiers off of her family’s porch went viral, signed a plea deal in Israeli military court on Wednesday, and will serve eight months in prison including three months time served. Her mother, Nariman, and cousin, Nur, also signed plea deals. Nariman will serve eight months, and Nur was sentenced to time served.”

The now-famous video of Ahed was filmed shortly after Israeli soldiers shot her cousin, Mohammed, in the head with a rubber-coated bullet and fractured his skull. An Israeli military court denied bail to Ahed and her mother, Nariman — the latter charged with incitement for livestreaming the video of Ahed and the soldiers — in January.

In court on Wednesday, an activist present during Nariman’s hearing slapped a military prosecutor and was arrested. The activist, an Israeli citizen, reportedly told the prosecutor after slapping him: “who are you to judge her.” (read more)

Elisha Ben Kimon and Yoav Zitun, in YNET, write, “Palestinian teen provocateur Ahed Tamimi, on trial for slapping an IDF officer and accosting him and a comrade during Nabi Salih riots, was sentenced to eight months in prison on Wednesday, under a plea bargain finalized between the Military Prosecution Service and Tamimi’s lawyers. The agreement was brought to the Ofer Camp’s military tribunal Wednesday for approval. Tamimi’s cousin, Nur Tamimi, who also took part in the incident, was sentenced to five months in prison. The two Tamimi girls—Ahed, 17, and Nur, 21—were filmed hitting a company commander and a soldier in December during clashes between Palestinians and IDF forces in the village of Nabi Salih in the central West Bank.”

Ahed Tamimi, incarcerated since December 19, was charged with assaulting the officer and soldier, attacking members of the security forces in five other incidents, stone throwing, participation in clashes, threats and incitement. Her cousin Nur was charged with aggravated assault of a soldier. As part of the deal, Tamimi will plead guilty to four of the charges in the indictment: the assault on the officer caught on film, incitement and two prior instances of disrupting IDF soldiers.” (read more)

We note that YNET. a centrist Israeli newspaper, did not write a single word acknowledging the conditions of occupation, of the regular harassment of the Tamimi family by the IDF, or of the near-fatal shooting of Ahed Tamimi’s 15 year old cousin earlier in the day of the “offence”. It even called her a “teen provocateur”.
