We provide links to articles we think will be of interest to our supporters. We are sympathetic to much of the content of what we post, but not to everything. The fact that something has been linked to here does not necessarily mean that we endorse the views expressed in it.

Balfouring the Middle East

Robert Fisk describes the process by which Britain tried to pacify conflicting claims to Palestine as a homeland – viz lying while making promises on which it was unable to deliver and concealing an instrumental favouring of Jews over Arabs. And the centrality of arms dealing to the whole continuing process.

Banksy’s Hotel in Bethlehem

To some the hotel funded and opened in Bethlehem by Banksy is off the wall – too dystopian or surreal to be comfortable. To others it is imaginative and practical – a base for visitors and an income for Palestinians. We repost Haggai Matar’s review.

Balfour and the missing second half

On November 16th MPs spent an hour a half ‘marking’ the Balfour Declaration. For some it was a chance to praise Israel or to deplore its policies. What they could all agree on was that if the second part of the famous letter had been implemented the world would be a much better place. Well informed speeches include Catherine West’s (Lab) and Jonathan Djanogly’s (Con).

What the Jewish safe haven has lost on its way to becoming ‘the Jewish state’

Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent insistence that Israel be described and universally recognised as ‘the Jewish state’ has won him applause in Congress and left the PA indifferent. Colin Shindler traces the journey from Jewish ‘homeland’ through binational state to Jewish ‘state’ and asks what Netanyahu might expect to gain from the re-designation.
