The dominant issue this week, December 16-21, 2014 has been the submission to the UN security council (UNSC) of resolutions calling for the withdrawal of Israel from the oPt and recognition of Palestine as a state. This latter has a realistic chance of passing because the US, astonishingly, may not exercise its veto.

Why the sun may not rise tomorrow. US may not exercise veto;

Palestine state is the alternative to violence, European Council on Foreign Relations. what Palestinian statehood will effect;

EU parliament votes for principle of Palestinian statehood, predictable as every European representative assembly so far has voted for governments to recognise Palestine as a state;

EU peoples’ votes to recognise Palestine ‘endanger Israel’, reaction in Israel to European popular votes;
