All lives – and deaths – are equal

JfJfP executive committee

November 24, 2014

Jews for Justice for Palestinians condemns in the strongest terms the recent attacks on a Jerusalem synagogue which led to five deaths and many injured. We express our sorrow and sympathy with the friends and families and wish them long life.

However, we believe that this attack is a product of the brutal occupation, particularly the three attacks on Gaza  over the past six years in which 3,700 Palestinians were killed.  During Operation Cast Lead in 2008-9, Israel  destroyed 30 mosques and damaged 15. In one instance at least 15 worshippers were killed. During Operation Protective Edge (July-August 2014) Israel destroyed 63 mosques, with considerable loss of life.

We call for an end to the occupation and associated brutality and believe that attacks on civilians will continue until it is ended.  We also call for equal coverage of all attacks and recognition that the deaths of Israelis and Palestinians are equally tragic.  We further call for due process of law for the perpetrators of attacks and the ending of collective punishments and reprisals against their families.
